My old pants were no longer waterproof, I'd replace these and there have been some very wet trips. Although without the thermal layer in I felt like my clothes were getting damp, when i got to work they were dry. It did take a while for the pants to dry and I'd recommend taking the waterproof layer out to dry them as that helped to dry then faster.
